You decided that it’s time to automate your awesome Splashy wallpapers on your iPhone but you don’t know how exactly? Don’t worry, we’ll go over the steps together and you’ll have brand new wallpapers on your phone every day without lifting a finger.

Step #1: Set up and run Splashy shortcut

We went over how to set up Splashy shortcut in this blog post so you can check it out. It’s really important to note that Automation won’t work without properly setting up your Splashy shortcut. You can follow the tutorial available in the Settings section of the Splashy app or follow the steps in the blog post. And if you want to make the shortcut even more powerful check out this post.

Step #2: Let’s create a personal automation

Head over to the Shortcuts app and go to the Automations tab. Tap on the + button in the upper right corner like it’s shown in the screenshot below.

Tap on the plus button in the Automation tab

Next, tap on Create personal Automation.

Tap on create personal automation

Here you can choose from several options when you want your automation to run. We can divide them into a couple of groups so let’s quickly go through some of them:

  1. Time events:
    - Time of the day: You can set an exact time when you want your Splashy shortcut to run or trigger it on sunrise or sunset
    - When your alarm is snoozed or stopped: treat yourself with a new wallpaper first thing in the morning
    - Apple watch workouts: motivate yourself before the workout or set up a new wallpaper as a reward for the finished workout
  2. Location events:
    - Arrive/Leave:
Get a fresh wallpaper each time you leave your house or when you arrive at your favorite place to chill
    - Commute: iPhone is smart so it can detect when you are commuting, why not use it for a new wallpaper
    - CarPlay: Trigger new wallpaper each time you connect to your car
  3. Action events:
    - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Low Power Mode:
Each time you toggle one of these settings you can also fetch a new wallpaper
    - NFC: Each time you tap your phone on the NFC sticker you can run an automation
    - App opening: Open any app of your liking and as a reward get a new Splashy wallpaper

For the sake of this tutorial let’s select 11:00 in the morning.

Select time of the day as a trigger for automation

Next, search: “Run shortcut” and select Run shortcut action.

Search for and select the Run Shortcut option

Tap on the Shortcut placeholder and select Set new wallpaper to get a new Splashy wallpaper.

Make sure that you have selected Set new wallpaper

If you’re not sure that you’ve correctly set this up, you can test it! Tap on the play button in the lower right corner and you should see your new wallpaper. Also, your phone should have a fresh wallpaper set. Check the photo below.

Test your automation by tapping on the play button

One more thing to do is to turn off Ask before running and then Notify me when run button will appear. You can leave that turned off too. Now all you need to do is press Done.

Make sure that Ask Before running is turned off

Automation won’t work properly if Ask before running is enabled.

That’s it, you can now enjoy your new Splashy wallpaper whenever you want without any effort. Cheers!
